Which stores are the most expensive?
In seven chains, the average prices of baskets were above PLN 300, Auchan was the leader in the lowest prices, while the most expensive basket, worth nearly PLN 350, was recorded in the Netto chain – according to the study. In November, the prices of drinks and sweets increased the most – by 23 and 14 percent, respectively.
Data collected by ASM SFA show that in November the average price of a shopping basket containing the most popular everyday items increased by PLN 10.59, or 3.67%. and amounted to PLN 299.58. Price increases were recorded in ten of the surveyed chains, in the remaining three the prices of the surveyed products were lower than in October this year. The largest increase in the average price of a shopping basket was recorded in the Lidl chain and amounted to 33.27 percent, while the largest decrease in Carrefour stores – by 7.71 percent.
On an annual basis, an increase in prices of the tested products was observed in 9 out of 13 analyzed chains. The largest increase in basket prices was recorded in the Lidl chain, in which the average basket price in November 2024 was as much as PLN 81.12 higher than in 2023, i.e. by 36%. However, a price drop was observed in four chains.
The basket based on the lowest prices of products from the surveyed chains was worth PLN 208.97, PLN 22.07 more than in October this year. The difference between the cheapest and the most expensive basket in November 2024 was PLN 159.70 and is PLN 9.30 lower than in October this year. On an annual basis, the sum of the minimum basket in November 2024 was higher by 16.18%. than a year ago, while the basket based on the highest prices was 1.14% more expensive in November 2024. than in 2023
The prices of drinks and sweets increased the most
In the opinion of Client Service & Analysis Director ASM SFA Kamil Kruk, the November increase in shopping basket prices by 5.8%. year-on-year shows that inflationary pressures continue to significantly impact the amounts consumers see on their receipts. “The largest increases in categories such as beverages and sweets reflect the rising costs of raw materials and transport. At the same time, the difference of almost PLN 160 between the cheapest and the most expensive shopping basket indicates that retail chains have wide room for maneuver in shaping the price levels of selected products,” Kruk said.
ASM SFA’s comparison of prices of product categories, determined on the basis of selected 40 products, shows that in November 2024 compared to 2023, the prices of 8 out of 10 analyzed product categories increased: additives, meat, cold cuts and fish, frozen foods, dairy products, drinks, sweets, loose products, stimulants and beer. Fatty products, household chemicals and cosmetics have become cheaper year-over-year.
The leader in minimum prices
In November this year in the case of minimum product prices, Biedronka became the leader, offering 24 products at minimum prices. Next came Auchan with 8 products with the lowest prices, followed by Aldi, Intermarchė and Selgros Cash & Carry – 2 products each). The following chains: Carrefour, Kaufland, Makro Cash & Carry and Netto included 1 product at minimum prices out of 40 analyzed.
