In fact, in Colombia this situation has been raised several times, an idea that has come from political and social sectors, which demand a hard hand with criminals and thus have tranquility in the streets.
Andrés Guzmán CaballeroPresidential Commissioner of Human Rights and Freedom of Expression of El Salvador, spoke about about what their experience has been on this subject and responded clearly to the possibility that an equal model can be replicated in Colombia, including the construction of a penitentiary center of this style.
“The two contexts are totally different, El Salvador had totally different criminal phenomena to those that Colombia has ”, explained.
Guzmán set an example that the fundamental axis of everything was to end the gangs, since they were the ones that sown terror and were behind most of the crimes, especially the murders. “Colombia has some totally different processes”, mentioned.
Despite this, Bukele’s official remarked that it is possible to follow in Colombia a similar process and, therefore, build this type of prisons. In fact, he set an example the task that Johana Bahamón is doing to help the deprived of liberty.
“I am sure that if politicians, people who have power, The businessmen and the whole society puts the same Johana shirt (…) I am sure we can achieve it, ”he said.

For his part, Johana Bahamón, who had the opportunity to visit the prisons of El Salvador, remarked that there are three fundamental pillars there: Control and discipline order. The actress also compared this with the Colombian case.
“I believe that in Colombia, according to what we have seen that has given us results, Pillars are opportunity, trust and support. Without job opportunities, the system condemns these people to recidivism. Without confidence of society, they are still seen as criminals. And without support, many times they don’t even have a network or a family that receives them, ”he said.
Bahamón made it clear that reintegration is possible, but this is achieved with a clear help from society. “This is not a utopia, but a necessity if we really want to reduce crime in our country,” concluded.
