The plan to close three plants in Germany, not two as previously proposed, does not exhaust the list of cuts planned by the company’s management. Cutting plans also include introduction of universal wage cuts of 10%. in the main brand VW and reducing employment at all other plants in the country, said the head of the works council, Daniela Cavallo, who also sits on VW’s supervisory board, in Wolfsburg, Germany.
Extensive cost cutting plan
Cavallo on Monday, in a speech before hundreds of VW employees, said that means recalling even more products, reducing production, changes and entire assembly lines.
Cavallo also said VW’s cost-cutting pressures may threaten “tens of thousands” of jobs in Germany. She added that luxury car maker Porsche has ended production cooperation and planning of future models with the Osnabrück plant.
Cavallo’s speech was part of rallies organized by the workers’ side at several VW plants across the country.
