Poland is a leader in Europe

According to data from the International Trade Center, cited by the authors of the publication, the export value of Polish candles and candles in 2023 reached EUR 764 million, which is 17%. global market for this segment. “It means that every sixth torch or candle in the world comes from Poland, which puts us in second place on a global scale, second only to China (EUR 877 million),” Akcenta reported.

In turn, in Europe, Poland is the leader. Number two is Netherlands, but with a result almost four times lower (EUR 210 million), while the next places are taken by Belgium (EUR 189 million) and Germany (EUR 177 million).

Akcenta’s calculations show that although the value of Polish exports in 2023 decreased compared to the previous year (EUR 925 million in 2022), compared to the times before the pandemic, Polish exports of grave lights and candles show a significant increase (by 40% since 2019).

Poland’s main trading partner is Germany, which buy every third Polish candle intended for export, which in turn translates into a value of EUR 253 million. In second place is the Netherlands, which receives every tenth candle and candle from Polish exports, reaching EUR 88 million (11% of total exports). The podium is closed by Sweden, which purchased candles and candles for EUR 66 million in 2023, which is 8%. market.

Poles spent PLN 700 million on the purchase of 300 million candles

The report shows that last year Poles spent PLN 700 million on the purchase of 300 million candleswhich clearly shows that the domestic production of these products fully meets the demand on the domestic market.

As explained by the managing director of Akcenta in Poland, Radosław Jarema, in the world ranking the Chinese beat Poland mainly due to lower labor costs and easy access to raw materials. Moreover, as he noted, “Asian producers do not have to worry about greenhouse gas emissions.”

He noted, however, that this may change in the near future because the European Union, as part of the Fit for 55 package, intends to prevent the transfer of high-emission production abroad and the use of more lenient ecological standards in other countries. “This could also result in the introduction of a carbon tax at the border on imported products, which will significantly impact China’s exports. In such a scenario Poland has a chance to become number one in the global export of grave lights and candlesusing its experience and strong position on the European market – said Jarema.

Akcenta is a currency trader on the Czech and Central European markets. The client portfolio consists of over 54,000 entities, mainly small and medium-sized companies focused on export or import. (PAP)
