Amid the deep crisis of Catatumbothe president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, traveled to Haiti at noon on Wednesday on an official visit “that stands out both for its historical relevance and for the opportunity to strengthen relations between both nations,” according to the Presidency.
“During his short stay, the Colombian president will meet with the president of the Presidential Transition Council, Leslie Voltaire, to advance a joint agenda that will cover economic, cultural and technical issues, with the aim of consolidating a framework of strategic cooperation that benefits to both countries,” reported the Casa de Nariño.
“The Colombian head of state and his delegation will participate in a binational working group with their Haitian counterparts to discuss initiatives in key areas such as agriculture, commerce and culture. These discussions seek to promote joint projects that promote sustainable development, the exchange of technical knowledge and the strengthening of local economies,” he added.
“In 1816, this city was the scene where Simón Bolívar received vital support from Haiti, led by President Alexandre Pétion, to continue the fight for South American independence. As part of this historic tribute, President Petro and Voltaire will visit the Plaza de Bolívar, a symbol of solidarity and the spirit of unity between the two countries. “This meeting symbolizes the commitment of both nations to continue working together and building a legacy of unity and understanding,” said the Presidency.
Meanwhile, the vice president, Francia Márquez, replied to official messages from the Vice Presidency of Colombia on her X account. On January 17, more than a week ago, Márquez published a tweet reporting on the situation in Catatumbo. And, after that, he has published matters related to his agenda and Africa.
“The violence that is currently shaking Catatumbo causes us deep pain, a humanitarian crisis that affects all vulnerable families and communities in that region. Unfortunately, this humanitarian crisis is repeated in other regions of the country, such as Chocó and Cauca. It is regrettable that these armed groups have not accepted the will of President @petrogustavo to find the total peace that Colombia so needs. I call for priority to be given to guaranteeing human rights and the lives of communities and families that are in the midst of armed conflict and violence. As the National Government, we will continue to work tirelessly so that peace and dignity become customary for all the Colombian people.”
After this message these have been his replicated trills:
Given this context, Andrés Forero, Representative of the Democratic Center Chamber, in debate with Alejandro Ocampo, representative of the Chamber for the Historical Pact; Duvalier Sánchez, representative to the Chamber for the Green Alliance and Paola Holguín, senator of the Democratic Center, He stressed that being in situations other than the truly urgent ones in the country account for the Government’s failure. In addition, he said, they went to seek help from a dictatorship, like that of Venezuela, to contain the ELN guerrilla.
“What one sees from the national government, from the president, the vice president, from the Minister of Defense, is a complete disconnection with what is happening in the country. One feels that given the notorious failure of his total peace policy, of his government, what the president is going to try to do is escape with a forced international agenda. These crises test leadership ability. We must remember that President Petro missed three days and when he appears he said that he was supposedly going to decree a state of internal commotion and an economic emergency. This Government, furthermore, is very slow, and to top it off the president says he is going on a trip. And try to find a solution with the help of the Venezuelan dictatorship, an accomplice and sponsor of the ELN.”

Márquez, social leader and Minister of Equality, called to assist communities in the deep crisis, has not spoken further since the aforementioned date.
The president of ColombiaGustavo Petro, announced this Thursday “an action plan” coordinated with the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro to defuse the violence on the border with Venezuela that leaves more than 80 dead and 36,000 displaced. “A joint action plan is being built that seeks to close all space for action by the owners of drug trafficking on the border. A meeting of the two defense ministers will be held for this purpose,” the president indicated on his X network account.
The border region of Catatumbo completes a week under the bloody control of the guerrillas of the National Liberation Army, which attacks the civilian population and fights with dissident guerrillas from the extinct Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. According to Petro, during his six-hour visit to Haiti he spoke with “Maduro to cover up illegal crossings, especially in the Catatumbo River, and to act with flights from both sides.”
Due to the attack, Petro suspended the peace negotiations he was holding with the ELN and announced that the country would enter a “state of internal commotion.”
Some municipalities in Colombia They are becoming huge camps for displaced people, to whom hundreds arrive every day. Some flee to Venezuela, where there are 1,580 Colombians “refugees,” according to Petro.
