One month after the elections in Venezuela, President Gustavo Petro continues to be quite cautious regarding the supposed victory of Nicolás Maduro. The Foreign Ministry has insisted on the publication of the minutes by the National Electoral Council (CNE) to give legitimacy to the elections.

This position of the president has provoked all kinds of comments and questions. One of the last to speak out about the attitude of the Cordoban was the mayor of Medellin, Federico Gutierrez, who spoke this Wednesday with Por las Regiónes.

The Antioquian pointed out that all democratic countries must condemn the dubious results of the elections and recognize Edmundo González Urrutia as president of Venezuela, since he was the clear winner of the electoral day of July 28.

“Our position regarding Venezuela is very clear. The national government and all democratic countries must recognize Edmundo González as the legitimate president of the Venezuelan people, who was democratically elected. The national government has decided to opt for an ambiguous position, as many say, but for me it is not ambiguous.” initially indicated.

Then he sentenced: “It is a position in favor of the Maduro regime because they are giving it time. Maduro said that Petro was his advisor. What did he advise him? To gain time. The serious thing is that some governments have lent themselves to supporting these dictatorships, with which one cannot have any kind of doubt.”

Mayor Gutiérrez stressed in this medium that his administration’s position regarding the “fraud” in the neighboring nation is clear and forceful, since 10% of the population of Medellín corresponds to Venezuelan migrants.

It should be mentioned that Andrés Pastrana also spoke exclusively with and revealed that President Petro has not come out to categorically reject the “coup d’état” carried out by Chavismo in Venezuela because his “partners” are in that territory.

The former Colombian president was emphatic in saying that what the leader of the Historic Pact is doing is giving the Maduro regime time to legitimize the “fraud” of the July 28 elections and will end up supporting the “narco-dictatorship” of the ruling party.
