The insecurity in Bogotá is out of control, it became normal to hear cases of robbery, sicariate and even explosions, a situation that already generates fear among the capital.
Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán was elected with the flags of “Bogotá walks safe”but for many this is not being fulfilled and has failed to turn the problem.
Several councilors spoke about the complex panorama in the capital of the country and launched some proposals. On the one hand, It was pointed out that a great option would be militarizationwhile another position was to bet on social work.
The councilor Óscar Ramírez Vahos He explained that today eight out of ten Colombians feel insecure in the streets, something that goes hand in hand with the change of the criminal dynamics that there is and that increased crimes. Therefore, he proposed the militarization of the country’s capital.
“When we propose this it is because we are seeing that the criminal act of criminal gangs, which today are identified, has climbed the issue to urban terrorism”He said.
To argue his idea, the lobbyist set an example what is currently happening in the San Bernardo neighborhood, center of Bogotá, where they have presented attacks with grenades. “We have asked that in these places and in all hot points in crime, we have patrols together with the Police and the Military Police,” he said.
Ramírez also questioned that the capital of the country has 50 % more budget for security, but this is not being executed. “You have to take different measures and in the absence of police we have to opt for technology,” commented.
For her part, Councilor Rocío Dussan questioned this initiative remarry that this complex panorama will not be resolved with the use of weapons, but, from her vision, the solution is to point to social work.
For this reason, he highlighted the need for more equality and real accompaniment to the Bogota. ”Unfortunately, we are seeing that in San Bernardo they are concentrating a lot of crimes because there are inhabitants of street, microtrafficking, drug trafficking, common crime“, said.
Dussan made it clear that more forcefulness is needed by Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán. “He has to act, he is the chief of the police,” he said.
“There must be a strategy and good planning,” complement.
In that sense, he strongly questioned the Secretary of Security, César Andrés Restrepo Flórez, for the lack of inaction he is seeing. “We have no secretary in this administration,” he said.
“We have an official who is sitting and that more than a year ago he has told us that he is doing a strategy, but it really does not exist. (…) You have to work, do more for social work and not generate wars”He added.
For the lobbyist, the mayor of Galán is not truly committed to this issue of insecurity, as they sold it in the campaign. “Bogotá is not walking safe”, concluded.
