Record number of bears hunted in Sweden in 2023
According to Swedish Environmental Protection Agency the bear population in 2008 was a record 3,300, and then every year a large number of shootings were allowed. In 2023, hunters shot 722 individuals, the most in history.
The tradition of hunting in Sweden: hunting accessible to all

Debate over bear hunting in Sweden
Each year as hunting season approaches the debate intensifies. Swedish Wildlife Association believes that high limits on killing protected animals are inconsistent with environmental conventions. The organization launched the website Swedensbigfive.org to publicize the problem.
