Participants of the discussion at the European Economic Congress, presenting an assessment of energy transformation in Poland, stated that it is good, taking into account the perspective of 2-, 3-year-old and bad, if you look long-term. They decided that the stage of childhood is already behind us, now we are going to the most important actions in which security aspects should be taken care of in connection with the dispersion of energy sources, as well as Poland’s competitiveness.
The future is open
Grzegorz Lot, President of the Management Board of Tauron Polska Energia, noted that Transformation is a continuous processand uncertainty about the future is its natural element. He stated that the question is to what extent the transformation would be successful and whether it would become an opportunity for Poland or rather a bullet at the leg that will bring energy prices and problems with the implementation of industrial policies. He emphasized that to spend on investments on a national scale there are PLN 2 trillion by 2050. It is necessary to properly use this money, for which good investment planning is needed.
– Therefore, the responsibility should be clearly determined and the level of coordination is quite clear to significantly reduce the risk of transformation. Then the presidents of the companies will be able to focus on assembling and development management, not on predicting the future – he added.
During the discussion, it was indicated that energy security means not only stable deliveries, but also those that will be implemented after prices that everyone will be able to afford. Grzegorz Lot emphasized that they would fall as RES share in the network increases. The challenge, however, is to match the energy production profile for its use, which will allow you to maintain energy prices at the lowest possible level.
Customer in the spotlight
President Tauron Polska Energia emphasized that the unique phenomenon of the last 10-20 years is The growing role of the client in the energy discussions. Traditionally, concentrated on networks and energy production. It is currently well known that all actions are taken for clients, business and individual.
– Without the approval of customers, offers, prices and conditions, the functioning of the energy sector will not be possible. That is why the customer is the most important – he emphasized.
Answering the question about the burden of customers with the costs of transformation from coal to renewable energy, the president of LOT pointed to several key aspects. He emphasized that Tauron’s core is 6 million customers connected to the distribution network and the company’s strategy is concentrated around them. In the next 10 years, the company plans to invest approx. PLN 60 billion in distribution, PLN 30 billion in renewable energy, PLN 5 billion in heat decarbonization and the same in the customer’s perspective.
Tauron strongly puts on dynamic tariffs, the new offer in this area will be announced on June 21. Energy consumption in accordance with nature (greater use in high -generation renewable energy periods) will reduce its costs for enterprises and households. However, it will require a change in habits. Customers who want to engage in this way will be able to stay with the standard G11 tariff.
There is also a matter with clients energy storage. This is an important element of the system, allowing you to elastic and use energy at a convenient time. As the president of LOT said, 6 million customers may have their own warehouses or electric cars (they can also play such a role). Tauron is seriously approaching transport electrificationinvesting in charging infrastructure. During the peak hours of renewable energy production, charging electric vehicles will be very cheap.
The President of LOT also drew attention to the potential of the heating sector as a distributed energy storage.
– The goal is that 100 percent domestic hot water could have been made of renewable energy, using, among others Periods of negative electricity prices – he said.
Adaptation of production to consumption at falling electricity prices is to allow Tauron to remain competitive.
The President of LOT also referred during the discussion for the purposes of zero -emission, reminding that Tauron plans to achieve climate neutrality by 2040.and Poland strives for a zero -emission economy in the perspective of 2050. However, he emphasized that forecasting in the energy sector is difficult, and many earlier energy policies with specific numbers did not work. The future consumption of energy is uncertain and depends on many factors, such as customer behavior at dynamic tariffs or the development of new technologies.
However, Grzegorz Lot emphasized the responsibility of the current generation for the future and the need to transform the energy in the zero -emission direction. Tauron Polska Energia activities in this area also translate into an increase in the value of shares, which is positively perceived by investors.

President Tauron at the same time warned against a dangerous game of constant introduction of support systems, which, although they are to promote new technologies, in the end they can make life difficult for households and reduce competitiveness by increasing bills for distribution. He also proposed several specific activities, such as full market liberalization, maximum slimming of invoices and documents, and eliminating double taxation, which means no VAT for support systems, ETS and excise duty in accounts. He also in favor of intensive investments in wind farms wherever possible, arguing that even if they prove to be unnecessary in 15 years, the investment will pay back to them at that time.
