December 23 marked a special day for 50 young Colombians, who received the news of their admission to the new Medicine program at the Universidad del Atlántico (Uniatlántico). This achievement, the result of a rigorous selection process, represents a crucial step for both the applicants and the institution, which is beginning its first cohort in this area.

Among those admitted is Dilary Selena Paniagua García, a 16-year-old girl residing in the municipality of Soledad, metropolitan area of Barranquilla, who shared her emotion.

“Since I was in school I dreamed of being a doctor and when I saw that we could enter the Universidad del Atlántico I was excited. I know that the Icfes score is very important, so since tenth and eleventh grade I have been preparing with my schoolmates and this is something very special,” said the young woman.

Jemima Charrys Maldonado, a young indigenous woman from the Mokaná ethnic group and resident of the municipality of Repelón, also managed to enter the program. Jemima expressed her motivation to improve conditions in her community.

“When I enrolled in the University I thought about my municipality because I want to create hospital centers and give it the opportunity to have high-quality trained doctors and I know I will achieve it,” Jemima stated.

The selection process brought together 4,242 candidates from 270 municipalities in Colombia. Of them, the 100 with the highest scores in the Saber 11 tests were preselected, with this result having a weight of 80% in the total assessment. Subsequently, the applicants underwent psychotechnical and psychological evaluations, which contributed 10% each to the final grade.

Of those admitted, the diversity stands out, the group is made up of 66.67% women and 33.33% men in one of the categories evaluated, while in another the female participation was 54.29%. The maximum score achieved in the Saber 11 tests was 475, reflecting the academic excellence of the applicants.

The rector of the Universidad del Atlántico, Danilo Hernández Rodríguez, expressed his enthusiasm when welcoming these new students of this faculty.

“We are happy to welcome the 50 admitted to the Medicine program, hoping that their training process will not only contribute to the transformation of their lives, but also contribute to a country that needs them in the development of health sciences.” “, said.

It was learned that classes at this higher education institution begin on February 3, 2025. The list of those admitted was published on the institutional website, consult it by clicking here.
