The Senate of the Republic is waiting to formally receive from the government of President Gustavo Petro the proposal for popular consultation, with their respective questions, to initiate his study and decide if he gives the endorsement so that Colombians are summoned to the polls.
In this Tuesday’s edition of the program, Senator Alejandro Chacón, of the Liberal Party, spoke about the mechanism of citizen participation and said that his colleagues and he are attentive to know the questions to fix his position.
“This is a mechanism of citizen participation. Hopefully the questions are not those that motivate the Senate of the Republic to deny the possibility that the people resolve,” he said.
In that sense, Chacón warned that, if the government presents questions that are not “chord” to the law, this can lead to the failure of the initiative.

Chacón also defended the Liberal Party project that seeks the application of the night day from 7:00 at night and the remuneration of Sunday and festive work, with a 100 % surcharge on the ordinary salary in proportion to the hours worked. This initiative has been qualified since the government coalition as a “play” to counteract the proposal for popular consultation, which was rejected by the liberal senator.
