Trump or Harris? They reveal who Petro would prefer in the Presidency of the United States

Luc Williams

This Tuesday, November 5, the United States presidential elections take place, one of the closest in history and whose protagonists are Donald Trump, who seeks to return to the White House, and Kamala Harris, who wants to continue the same path as Joe Biden. They are two very different candidates, something that has been reflected in each of the debates and positions.

Salud Hernández-Mora, journalist and columnist, spoke about this issue that has stolen the attention of the entire world, the decision of the Americans can impact the entire planet due to the influence that the United States has. The communicator made an analysis about the elections and what can happen.

Hernández-Mora spoke about what could be most beneficial for the Government of President Gustavo Petro. Between Trump and Harris, believes that for the Colombian Executive it is much better that the Democratic candidate wins the victory and become the president of the main world power.

“For the Petro Government it is better that Kamala Harris wins. Let’s put it in partisan terms, although then the reality is something else, but “Harris is better off because they have an ambassador in Washington who has very good relations with Democratic congressmen,” he pointed out.

However, the journalist made it clear that she does not consider that if Trump wins, she will not “kick” either because she does not like Petro and, in addition, she put the issue of Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship on the table. “Suddenly he doesn’t like you, but in the end you have a Congress where many things are decided. “What would interest Colombia most would be a president who would take drastic measures with Venezuela.”he pointed out.

Hernández-Mora questioned some of the decisions that President Joe Biden and his government have made regarding the issue of the Maduro regime, something that — from his point of view — could continue to happen if Harris reaches the White House. In that sense, he highlighted that the vice president sometimes has unclear positions on Venezuela, but then comes out with some harsher ones.

“It will not be a catastrophe for Colombia if one or the other wins, because in addition, halfway through the term in 2026, there will be another president here and he will have a different orientation. I don’t think that for Colombia it is that important who wins. What is important is for Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua,” he explained.

The communicator recalled that, at the time, there were four years of Trump and then Biden arrived, but in terms of relations with Colombia, no major changes were seen.

In the event that the magnate is elected again as president of the United States—from the columnist’s point of view—the Colombian head of state may have the same attitudes that he once had with Javier Milei, with whom he generated a great confrontation. that even put relations between nations at risk.

“At first, he would do what he did with Milei: he is not going to congratulate him, he is going to say that he is a horror, that he is a fascist.” (…) Just like what happened with Trump, it will be a landscape, and the ambassador in Washington will have to calm the waters. Obviously, they are going to attack because one of the important differences between Trump and Harris is that he insists that more oil must be exploited,” he said.
