Poland is far from the leaders. Here are the most motorized regions in Europe (MAP)

From the data Eurostat in 2022, there were on average 0.56 passenger cars per inhabitant in the European community, which is the same as in 2021. However, behind this number there are noticeable regional differences. The highest car saturation was recorded in the Aosta Valley in Italy, where there are over 2 cars per inhabitant (2.34).

However, the fewest passenger cars (0.08 cars) per inhabitant of the Mayotte region, a French overseas region located in the Mozambique Channel in the Indian Ocean, which is geographically far from the Old Continent, but Eurostat statistics include it in France.

The highest and lowest saturation with passenger cars

In 2022, the three regions with the highest motorization rate were in Italy: Valle d'Aosta with 2,339 cars per 1,000 inhabitantsthen Provincia Autonoma di Trento with 1,431 cars per 1,000 inhabitants and Provincia Autonoma di Bolzano with 935 cars per 1,000 inhabitants.

Among the 10 regions with the highest motorization rate, 6 were located in Italy Italy, and one in each Finland, Greece, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.

At the other end of the scale is the French overseas region Mayotte, where there were 83 passenger cars per 1,000 inhabitants. This is followed by Greek Peloponnese (203 cars per 1,000 inhabitants) and other overseas territories of France – French Guiana (217 per 1,000 inhabitants).

Of the 10 regions with the lowest motorization rate, 4 were in Greece, 2 (both overseas) in France, 2 in Romania and one each in Germany and Austria. It is worth noting that 2 of them are the metropolitan areas of Berlin (331 per 1000) and Vienna (366 per 1000).

Motorization rate in Polish regions

Eurostat data show that in Poland the highest saturation with passenger cars was in 2022, in the Warsaw-Capital region. There were 647 passenger cars per 1,000 inhabitants of Warsaw and the surrounding area, 13 fewer than in the previous year. Warsaw was the only region of Poland where the motorization rate recorded a decline.

The second most saturated voivodeship in Poland with passenger cars was Lubuskie, where there were 626 passenger cars per 1,000 inhabitants, 22 more than in the previous year. The next place among the Polish regions was the voivodeship. Greater Poland Voivodeship (622 cars per 1,000 inhabitants).

The lowest rates were recorded in the voivodeship. Warmian-Masurian and Podlasie, 544 and 541 cars per 1,000 inhabitants, respectively.

Share of electric cars

Among EU regions the highest share of electric cars personal data had regions in the Netherlands and Sweden.

The highest share was recorded in the Dutch Flevoland, where 12.8 percent. these were electric cars, and Utrecht in the Netherlands and Stockholm in Sweden (both 6.6%).

The top ten included 4 regions from the Netherlands, 4 from Sweden, Luxembourg (1 region) and one region from Austria.

With the share of electric cars close to zero, 7 regions in Greece and one in Greece were at the other end of the scale Czech Republic, Poland and Spain.

Electric cars in Poland

The largest share of electric cars in Poland was recorded in the Warsaw capital region, where the percentage of electric cars was 0.29%. According to Eurostat data, there are 6,028 electric cars registered in Warsaw and the surrounding area. However, in Warmia and Mazury, the least electrified region, there were 446 electricians registered in 2022, which constituted only 0.06%. all passenger cars in the voivodeship.
