Will Poles start building wind turbines next to their houses? Subsidies raise hopes and doubts

The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management is preparing another program addressed to prosumers. After the success of the Moje Prąd program, from which approximately 600,000 people received funding for photovoltaics, “My wind farm” is to be launched in the second half of the year.

At the end of last year, only 57 wind micro-installations with a total capacity of 0.32 MW were connected to the grid – confirms the Energy Market Agency. There are also off-grid installations in the country, but there is no data on how many of them there are.

The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management assumes that the introduction of the “My wind farm” program will result in at least 8.5 thousand wind micro-installations with a total capacity of 51 MW. The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management also wants to co-finance off-grid installations.

– The program is intended to offer financial support for owners of residential buildings who plan to purchase and install a home wind turbine with an electricity storage facility. We would like this support to contribute to a further increase in the share of renewable energy sources in final energy consumption and to allow for an increase in self-consumption of the generated electricity – through its storage. When planning the use of a micro wind power plant, remember that micro wind turbines do not fully cover the household's demand for electricity every hour of the day – therefore, under the planned program, it will also be possible to co-finance a home electricity storage facility. The use of a wind microturbine and an electricity storage facility will allow for the effective use of the generated energy for own needs – Ewelina Steczkowska from the organizational and legal department of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management informed the WysokieNapiecie.pl portal.

The draft program was submitted for quick consultations from January 29 to February 5 this year. As Ewelina Steczkowska explains, due to short deadlines for applying for funds for the implementation of the Moja Wind Power Plant program, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management was forced to take quick actions and efficient implementation. The results of the consultation will be published on the website.

The final decision to release PLN 400 million for the program rests with the European Investment Bank, which must first consent to spending money from the Modernization Fund. – If there is interest from citizens, we will consider increasing this amount and applying for further funds for this purpose – said Paulina Hennig-Kloska, Minister of Climate and Environment, during a recent press conference.
