Sales of the entire pharmacy market amounted to PLN 50.42 billion at the end of 2023, i.e. by 9.5%. more than in 2022, according to PEX PharmaSequence data. In turn, the value of refunds amounted to PLN 11.47 billion, which means an increase of 12.6%. y/y.
“Pharmacy market in December 2023, it recorded sales of PLN 4,731.4 million. The sales value compared to the same period in 2022 increased by PLN 1.7 million (+0.03%). Compared to the previous month, sales increased by PLN 201.1 million (+4.4%). The turnover of a typical pharmacy in December 2023 amounted to PLN 373.5 thousand. PLN, it was an increase of 1.6%. compared to the same period in 2022,” we read in the announcement.
Sales of paid medicines grew the most
Sale of reimbursed medicines amounted to PLN 1,273.4 million and increased by PLN 8.7 million (+0.7%), sales of full-price products amounted to PLN 1,218.1 million and increased by PLN 63 million (+5.5%), and sales of hand-made products amounted to PLN 2,197.8 million and decreased by PLN 74.6 million (-3.3%).
Compared to the previous month, the value of monitored segments increased in two analyzed segments. Sales of reimbursed medicines decreased by PLN 35.4 million (-2.7%), sales of full-price products increased by PLN 16.4 million (+1.4%), and sales of over-the-counter products increased by PLN 220.1 million PLN (+11.1%), it was also indicated.
Medicines 10% more expensive?
“The average retail price of the drug in December was PLN 28.9 and decreased by 0.4% compared to the previous month, and compared to the same period in 2022, the price increased by 9.6%. The average retail price of reimbursed prescriptions is PLN 32.8 PLN (an increase of 3.2% vs. December 2022), the average price of products from full-price prescriptions is PLN 38.3 (an increase of 12.1% vs. December 2022), the average retail price of manual sales is PLN 23.8 (an increase by 9.8% vs. December 2022),” we read further.
Increasingly higher margins
The average pharmacy margin for all drugs in December 2023 was 26.8%. and was higher by 5.8%. compared to the margin in the same period of 2022, and compared to November, the margin increased by 0.6%.
Last December drug reimbursement reached the value of PLN 1,088 million, i.e. by 15.4%. more than in the same period of 2022. The level of patient co-payments for reimbursed drugs was 77% in December and was higher by 1.8 points. percent compared to the previous month and lower by 3.1 points. percent compared to the same period of 2022, it was also indicated.
