Ewa Budzowska, Apteki od Serca: The elderly can learn balance between work and private life from the young

Luc Williams

Is combining professional life with private and family life a challenge for business and does it interfere with achieving good financial results? – I can say from my example that he absolutely does not argue. Harmonious combination of both areas should be the norm of our lives. There is a strong emphasis on this, especially in younger generations. Young people often saw their parents working very hard and sometimes losing the balance between professional and private life. I think that the elderly can learn from the young to effectively restore this balance – in a healthy way, i.e. one in which work-life balance goes hand in hand with high competencies that allow you to carry out assigned tasks very effectively and contribute to the development of the company. I believe that it is up to me, as a leader, to enable people to do this – emphasizes Ewa Budzowska.

Female leadership vs. male? It’s the past

In her opinion, there is no such thing as “typically female” or “typically male” leadership. The ability of a leader to adapt to the situation and the team is of fundamental importance. A good leader should inspire, create space for development, give the right to make mistakes, be able to listen and be attentive, have humility, and not impose his vision or idea on others without listening to everyone. – A leader is not a farm manager, but a person who supports, but is able to make decisions when necessary – even difficult ones. At Apteky od Serca, we try to communicate openly and honestly. I strive to ensure that each team member can come to their superior – tell about their failure or mistake and together think about what can be done better next time. – declares Ewa Budzowska.

In her opinion, multigenerationality in a team is an opportunity, although it involves challenges. It is important for a leader to constantly learn and not rely solely on past experiences, but to arouse curiosity and ask questions, also to himself. – Empathy, the ability to “put yourself in the shoes” of others, is crucial – women may be more predisposed to it, but it is not a rule, because many men can also demonstrate it – explains the manager.
