The Chinese government preached on Wednesday that he is planning Launch pilot projects in nine cities, under which they will use the batteries of the growing fleet of electric vehicles as energy warehousesto support electricity supply to the network during periods of demand increases.
As Reuters notes, the decision to include cars into the network is a continuation of the provisions issued last year by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), which aims to strengthen the integration of new energy vehicles with the energy network. The reason for issuing last year’s NDRC decision were fears that the rapidly growing fleet of electric vehicles will overload the energy and energy generation systems.
What are the vehicle-network or v2g projects
According to the NDRC statement and the energy regulator, most of 30 projects in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Canton are vehicle-sea or v2g projects.
For the operation of the vehicle in the V2G system, you need special two -way charger, which allows both the vehicle to be charged and returning the energy back to the network. V2G systems are managed using intelligent energy management systems, thanks to which the operator can control when and how much energy is to be given from the vehicle to the network.
As part of these projects, car batteries are to operate as network stabilizers. In the hours when there will be too much energy from renewable energy (solar and wind farms) on the web, car cells are to receive surplus energy, storing it and sending it back to the network during the peak of demand, helping to stabilize voltage in the network and avoid Blackout. Electric vehicles can be charged in hours when the energy demand is lower, which often means cheaper energy.
Additional source of income for home owners or charging station operators
As Reuters notes, cars connected to the network could also adapt charging time to avoid peak periods and provide key services such as frequency regulation. The provision of these services can potentially become an alternative source of income for home owners or charging station operators.
Last year, NDRC announced that by 2025 it will launch over 50 pilot programs.
