Although the appointment has not yet been officially made, everything indicates that Armando Benedetti will become the next hours in the new Minister of the Interior after the irrevocable resignation presented by Juan Fernando Cristo.
In several congressmen, they talked about what Benedetti’s arrival means to this new portfolio and the reasons why Petro continues to keep him in the government, despite the criticisms he has received.
Juan Carlos Losadarepresentative to the Chamber for the Liberal Party, recalled that the possible new Interior Minister knows many things about what happened in the campaign and, in a nutshell, keeps many secrets that could trigger several scandals and controversies.
“Benedetti is an option for President Petro because, as basically all his closer and relatives say, Petro is locked and alone”He said.
The representative said that this has been said by the former Minister of the Environment, Susana Muhamad, who at the time assured that Laura Sarabia, today the Chancellor of Colombia, completely locked the president, something that Gustavo Bolívar has also repeated.
“That is what all the people who are close to the circle of the President of the Republic say, they say that he is alone and locked up (…) I do not know what exactly they mean,” he said.
Losada recalled that Benedetti is one of the main ones involved in the audios that he published at the time and in which there were 15 billion pesos.
“All that is still there and one cannot leave the suspicion of thinking that it is precisely that part of the cause for which the president has kept Benedetti in the government since day one, ”he said.
In that sense, the congressman recalled that it is not the first time that this discussion is given and that a decision of these unleashed controversy, so he recalled that at the time there was also controversy when Petro sent him as an ambassador to the FAO and, later, later , when he named him head of the office.
“Of course, if you plan to raise it to Minister today, with more desire we have to say that is a totally inconvenient appointment,” he concluded.
For its part, Hernán Cadavidrepresentative to the Chamber by the Democratic Center, explained that in truth the future head of the interior portfolio has the “greatest secret” about what happened with the financing of the then candidate’s campaign.
“President Petro becomes imprisoned by a person from the most putrefactive traditional political of this country, He ran out of options and the whole country asks the same question: what is Benedetti’s punctually? ”He said.
“Sooner or later everything will come to light (…) Here the background is what is all that knows and what the president has in his hands,” he warned.
