China remains an important market and research center for the U.S. chip designer, and Nvidia has sought to maintain good relations with Beijing.

Unfortunately, due to the war at the top, Nvidia is suffering. In response to the restrictions introduced by the White House, the local antitrust regulator initiated a dinvestigation of Mellanox’s acquisition by Nvidia in 2020, to which the authorities in Beijing had previously given conditional consent. The investigation comes just weeks after the company’s CEO Jensen Huang highlighted China’s contributions to technology during a trip to Hong Kong.

China is a good place for AI research and development

Nvidia has been developing driving automation and AI software for over a decade, but its efforts have yet to bear fruit.

China has a leading position in pioneering EV technologies, so Chinese researchers would be well-placed to work on developing these technologies and collaborate with local automakers that are looking for such technologies to improve their offerings.

Nvidia in February, according to the company employed a total of 29,600 employees in 36 countries. In China, the company has expanded operations over the past few years and now employs nearly 600 people in Beijing, and recently opened a new office in the Zhongguancun technology center.
