The country is still in shock over the death of Dr. Catalina Gutiérrez Zuluaga, a student at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Javeriana, who repeatedly exposed the mistreatment she had suffered during her residency.
“It’s too scary. He is not just a student. In honor of her (Catalina) I make this video, in honor of her I tell how these people destroy a person’s dreams, how these people do it systematically,” the health professional stated on social media.
The famous doctor, likewise, opened his heart this Monday in a heartfelt conversation with and recounted live the hell he suffered in the middle of his residency. Jaramillo revealed in this medium that a professor fabricated that he was homosexual and that he had sexually harassed him.
“I had a teacher, the one I approached to tell that I was sad, depressed, and that I felt like they were killing me, and to say thank you for telling me, only for that same teacher to then gossip about me flirting with him because I was gay. I said, “What’s going on? If I were gay, there wouldn’t be a problem. But the problem was that I wasn’t gay,” he initially said.
Then he added: “They don’t throw people out, they all leave because of the abuse. There are hundreds of us residents who were run over. After I told what I told, I stopped and cried for half an hour alone. It is a very difficult situation. All of us who were once residents were mistreated.”
Dr. Jaramillo acknowledged that, even though many years have passed since the day he decided to leave the path of being a surgeon, he still has the same fear he had before when he was going to talk about what he experienced at that time.
The heartbreaking farewell letter
Likewise, as the days go by, new details continue to be revealed regarding this unfortunate case, which has caused much consternation in the country. Also, the last letter that Catalina left before she died was recently revealed.
The message, which quickly went viral on various social networks, was handwritten by the resident herself, who wanted to say goodbye to her colleagues in this way, saying that she learned something from each of them and wished them much encouragement.
“To all residents, thank you. I have learned a lot from each one of you. I will always carry you in my heart, you can do it! Cheer up,” was the short text that the young woman wrote, provoking all kinds of reactions and comments.
