“Five members of the Guanumen family work or have had links with the government of Gustavo Petro”

Luc Williams

Councilor Daniel Briceño uncovered cases of nepotism by the Government of President Gustavo Petro, a practice that, at the time, the head of state questioned in front of other executives, but which now has him in the most absolute silence. There was one that especially caught our attention: that of the family of Sebastián Guanumen, designated ambassador of Colombia in Chile.

The political scientist was one of the main architects that led Petro to win the presidential elections, but he became well known after, at the time, he spoke of “walking the ethical line” in order to achieve victory, something that, finally, , it ended up happening. Now, again, his name comes up along with other family members.

“This case seems very striking to me because it is a “family-company” that has been established since Petro was mayor of Bogotá. This Guanumen family always contributed money to Petro’s campaigns. When we place them within the spectrum of the State we find that five members of this family work with the Government or have had some connection,” he said.

The main case is that of Sebastián, who was appointed to the Colombian Embassy in Chile. The councilor recalled that, at the time, he was in charge of leading the entire campaign “discredit and running the ethical line against opponents, Petro contenders and the media.”

Second on the list is Hugo German GuanumenSebastián’s father, who for Briceño is the “true leader of this clan.” This person, according to the lobbyist, was appointed as a director in the Superintendency of Home Public Services, a position he reached after, initially, he was appointed advisor.

In the following position appears one of the aunts of President Petro’s campaign strategist, Nida Milena Guanumen Pachecowho has contracts for more than 120 million pesos, as indicated in Colombia Compra Eficiente. “It is a totally technical entity that is ready for this type of things,” the lobbyist mentioned.

The fourth case is that of Yolima Guanumen Pachecoanother of Sebastián’s aunts, and like the previous one, his father’s sister. This woman, according to the information collected by Briceño, has contracts in the Administrative Unit for the Management of Restitution of Dispossessed Lands, although she did not specify their cost.

Finally, in the list of cases of nepotism there is María Alejandra Guanumen Parrawho is the sister of the aforementioned ambassador designated in Chile. In this case, Briceño explained that she has another surname, but managed to verify that she was Sebastián’s sister after investigating some social media posts. Guanumen Parra signed a contract at the Ministry of Housing.

“There are five members of a family who were indispensable in this smear campaign against opponents, journalists, opponents of President Petro, and today they are working in the State,” commented the councilor of Bogotá, who exposed the nepotism that is occurring within the Government of the so-called change.

In addition to the “family-company” Guanumen, Briceño also spoke about the case that is being registered with the children of the Minister of Labor, Gloria Inés Ramírez. “This case is very striking because she said that she is not carrying out a labor reform to generate more employment, of course, because she does not need to generate jobs in the private sector, because her family works in the public sector,” he commented.

Diego Alejandro Restrepo Ramírezone of his sons, is the legal director of the Penitentiary and Prison Services Unit, while Álvaro Eduardo Restrepo Ramírezanother of the official’s sons, was hired by the Ministry of Culture from the beginning of President Petro’s government.
