Former members of the Orlen management board sued. Obajtek: The company is exposing itself to ridicule

“Orlen has filed lawsuits against former members of the company’s management board, Daniel Obajtek and Michał Rog, based on identified actions to the detriment of the company by spending Orlen’s funds for purposes unrelated to their functions,” the company’s press team said.

He added that the company is seeking the return of funds in civil proceedings, which – according to the collected documentation – were intended for private purposes, mainly for entertainment.

“The collected materials show thate Daniel Obajtek, at Orlen’s expense, spent many holidays in a luxury hotel in Łebaused aesthetic medicine treatments, or bought glasses and other luxury items. He allocated almost PLN 160,000 for this purpose,” it was added.

Michał Róg and – as reported by Orlen’s press team – he was supposed to use his company card to pay for purchases of luxury cheese, ham, cigars or meetings in “sophisticated restaurants”.

“In total, he spent over PLN 600,000 in an unauthorized manner, and single visits to restaurants cost even over PLN 5,000. Transactions in cigar stores worth more than PLN 11,000 at a time were also identified,” it was reported.

Orlen may demand compensation from 13 former management board members

Orlen press services recalled that, in accordance with the decision of the Extraordinary General Meeting, the company may demand compensation from 13 former members of the management board.

As stated by the former president of Orlen during Monday’s press conference Daniel Obajtekwhoever makes such accusations against Michał Rog “exposed himself to ridicule.” Obajtek stated that Róg was responsible for sales on the management board and had been traveling for six years to contact contractors, and in business culture it is normal for him to meet for dinners and lunches. Referring to the amount of Roga’s expenses, Obajtek said that “the average is PLN 4.5 thousand per month”, with the company’s turnover of PLN 400 billion and profits of PLN 90 billion.

The Orlen Group is a multi-energy concern with refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania, as well as a network of gas stations, including in Germany, Slovakia, Hungary and Austria. It is also developing the oil and natural gas extraction segment, the petrochemical segment, and renewable energy sources. It also plans to develop nuclear energy based on small SMR reactors. (PAP)
