Mauricio Lizcano, former Minister of ICT, announced on Wednesday, April 23, that he will be a candidate for the presidency in the 2026 elections.

Lizcano presented his aspiration under the motto ‘The revolution of common sense’, which he pointed out to unite the country and find solutions, beyond ideologies. The former Minister said that the signature collection process will formally begin from the date established by the National Registry.

After the announcement, Lizcano spoke with the program The Week Debate and gave details about his aspiration to the House of Nariño. During the conversation, the ex -minister said that, although he was a member of the Petro government, he is not considered as a person from the left or belongs to the historical pact.

“I accept the ministry and I do not regret it. It was the opportunity to connect to three million people. Colombia is the first country in Latin America by digital transformation. We had the opportunity to serve, nobody can say that from the ministry I made an ideological campaign,” he said.

The former official also recognized that there are aspects in which the country is going wrong, including security.

“One cannot cover the sun with your hands. The country in some things is going wrong. In security it goes badly, total peace has not worked. The health issue for the reforms remained in Statu Quo and is making waters. Energy issues and many others. I am not going to sell what does not exist. Colombians know what is right and what is wrong,” he said.
