How to apply for the Colfuturo Credit Scholarship Program and what are the requirements?

The Foundation for the Future of Colombia (Colfuturo), through the Credit Scholarship Program (PCB), provides Colombian professionals with the opportunity to access advanced studies abroad. This program offers financing for master’s degrees, doctorates and specializations in the health area at universities with a high academic level.

The PCB funds full-time, on-campus programs lasting nine to 24 months, awarding up to $50,000. In addition, Beneficiaries have the possibility of converting up to 80% of this amount into a scholarship.depending on compliance with certain requirements.

This program is the result of collaboration with the national government, especially with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, which contributes with the resources allocated to the scholarships. The beneficiaries, upon returning to Colombia, reimburse part of the support received, fulfilling a responsibility towards future generations.

Beneficiaries can use the requested amount independently to cover tuition, insurance, installation, materials and maintenance costs. Loan interest rates vary: 7% during the studies, 9% during the repayment period and 15% in case of default.

To qualify for the scholarship, professionals must return to Colombia and remain in the country for three years. Depending on the area of ​​study, they can obtain up to a 40% scholarship if they graduate with a master’s or doctorate degree, and up to 20% if they complete an MBA or a program in Administration or Law.

There are additional bonuses that allow you to increase the percentage of the scholarship. up to 80%. 20% can be obtained by working as a civil servant, teacher or researcher in Colombia, and another 20% if you work outside Bogotá and its metropolitan area.

Upon completion of their studies, beneficiaries are entitled to a one-year grace period before beginning to make payments.

Requirements and registration

To access the Colfuturo Credit Scholarship Program, interested parties must apply for the annual call, be selected and legalize the degree to be financed. The 2024 call for applications has already closed, but there is already a calendar for 2025:

  • Opening: January 7th.
  • Closing: February 28 at 11:59 pm (Colombia time).
  • Delivery of results: May 15th.
  • Being Colombian.
  • Have an undergraduate degree.

  • Write an essay.
  • Certify proficiency in a second language (this requirement is not necessary to apply for the call). This must be done if the person is selected and will legalize the scholarship credit.
