Icetex opened the educational credit renewal process, until when will it be extended?

The president of Icetex, Patricia Abadía, stated this Thursday, November 28, that the entity opened the process of renewing educational credits for 144,552 undergraduate and graduate students.

“Today, we are opening the renewal of educational credits, in all the lines that Icetex has, including the support credit. This exercise is very important for our young people, this guarantees that they can continue their training process. That is, they can advance in their next academic period,” he said during a press conference.

This renewal process is key to ensuring that students can enroll and continue with their academic training without interruptions.

Abadía also pointed out that the opening hours will be extended for young people seeking to renew their credits. “At Icetex we have worked to generate all the conditions and have all the service channels available to the entity so that young people can carry out their renewal process. We have been extending our opening hours. During Saturdays and Sundays we will have the entity’s digital channels ready,” he expressed.

“The entity has the financial strength to guarantee the necessary resources and so that young people, in this case, can advance this process,” he said.

This announcement comes one day after the meeting of the entity’s board of directors and after in recent days the Comptroller General of the Republic launched an alert about the possibility of definancing Icetex by 2025, which could put access to higher education for thousands of Colombian students is at risk.

On the other hand, the board of directors addressed the financial situation related to the resources assigned to Higher Education Institutions (IES) for the year 2024. As stated by the entity in a statement, during the session, the status of the transfers was reviewed in detail. pending to these institutions, which amount to approximately 149,000 million pesos.

Of this total, 94,000 million pesos correspond to the regular operation of Icetex, resources that will continue to be transferred in accordance with the entity’s internal regulations. The remaining 55,000 million pesos are destined for the Generation E – Excellence program, a key initiative to support outstanding students.
