The governor of Arauca, Renson Martínez, said Wednesday that it has been more than a year without a response from the Ministry of Education to be able to build a university in the department with their own resources.
“I have been waiting for an answer for more than a year for the Ministry of Education to allow us to place resources to build a university in the department of Arauca. It has not been possible. And we are not asking for money, ”he said in dialogue with the program of.
“Higher education is a responsibility of the national government, but understanding that we need universities in our department, I am playing it for that. But to build we need authorization from the Ministry and we have not found any response, ”he said.
The governor said the initiative is to build the Center for Studies in the municipality of Saravena. He pointed out that they have proposed to the government to deliver the land where the works would be carried out and finance the resources for designs and infrastructure.
“As the governorate, we place the land. We have the resources to do the studies and designs. We have royalty money to contribute in the construction of the infrastructure. The Vice Ministry tells us that we are going to sign an agreement, but to date it has not been possible, ”he said.
The departmental president said that he has not received a response from the educational portfolio on adjustments in the works of a headquarters of the National Open Unit (UNAD), which is at 90 % execution.
“It is at 90 % built and we need to make an adjustment for a value of 1,000 million additional pesos, which are resources of the Government, the date the ministry has not authorized that adjustment,” he said.

He pointed out that with the other ministries it has also been difficult to find solutions. “Investments have been few. We go through the different ministries, but the answers have not been effective.
