Spring and summer is a period when more and more vehicles with various types of trailers go to the roads. On fast roads and highways you can see sets with caravans, commercial or stretching boats of various sizes, which very often go at speed, which, as it turns out, is not allowed.
How does the speed limit apply to the vehicle pulling the trailer?
Polish law strictly determines the permissible maximum speed for sets consisting of a vehicle and a light trailer, which depends on the type of road we move. In the residence zone, the permissible speed is 20 km/h, and in the built -up area it is exactly the same as for all other vehicles, i.e. 50 km/h.
You can go a little faster outside the built -up area on single -day roads, where the permissible speed of the set is set at 70 km/h. On dual -day, expressway and highways, where we can drive much faster, the set can be moved with speed at most 80 km/h.
Why does a vehicle from a trailer have to go slower?
There is one answer to this question. Safety, which is influenced by several factors.
First, the trailer affects the stability of the vehicle. Everyone who has been driving a vehicle with a trailer at least once knows that the trailers tend to rock, which has a negative impact on the vehicle and makes controlling the vehicle at higher speeds much more difficult. In addition The larger mass of the set significantly extends the braking distance.
Vehicles with trailers are also less maneuverable, which is why lower speeds give drivers more time to appropriate reactions while turning or avoiding obstacles. In the case of camping trailers, which are much higher than passenger vehicles, there is more air resistance, which negatively affects the aerodynamics of the set, which is particularly felt at higher speeds and strong gusts of side wind.
What threatens for a fast driving set?
Drivers of vehicle teams who do not comply with applicable limits must take into account serious consequences. Driving the highway, as it seems at a speed limit of 140 km/h, they exceed the speed limit by as much as 60 km/h. And there is a high penalty and penalty points. You can get the same fine for too fast with a trailer, as for driving a car without a trailer too fast.
