María Paz Gaviria, daughter of former president César Gaviria, announced this week his departure from Artbo, the International Art Fair of Bogotá, after 13 years.

In an interview with De, Gaviria highlighted the work he carried out for more than a decade with the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá.

“It has been deeply gratifying to serve in this space. We have generated construction spaces and the possibility of contributing to the development of the country, ”he said.

After his departure from this position, Gaviria said that he is currently considering the possibilities of performing in other areas, even politics. Nevertheless, He ruled out to occupy some role in the government of President Gustavo Petro.

“I would not consider a position in Gustavo Petro’s government. I want to continue serving our country, I want to find new spaces and new forms, but you have to be consistent. I do not share the leadership, forms and funds of this government and could not fly its flags, ”he said.

Questioned about whether he will aspire to the Congress of the Republic, in the elections of March 2026, Gaviria said that he has not yet made any decision in this regard.

“At this time, I am simply opening new spaces and roads. I am considering the possibilities I have. I have not made any decision, ”he said.

“We are at a time when institutions are being crumbled. I think we are plunged into chaos, in the disgust. We are on a very wrong path for the country, ”he said.

In addition, he said that, in relation to the cultural sector, Petro has failed. “During the campaign, President Petro offered new possibilities to the cultural sector. At the time he offered a cultural transformation, in which he has undoubtedly failed. We had talked about the possibility of generating great reforms to make the sector more inclusive, sustainable, that it had a deeper participation of the regions. And, because of his chaos, he has been unable to fulfill, ”he said.

Gaviria highlighted the work of former Minister of Culture Juan David Correa, however, He pointed out that he was under an “equivocal leadership” that did not help him fulfill a “satisfactory” work.

“I value the effort and work of the last minister that the Petro government had. I admire it deeply, but I think it served under equivocal leadership that did not allow him to complete satisfactory management, ”he said in the interview.

He added: “Beyond talking about this government, the country needs to respond to the cultural sector, respond more adequately to your needs and recognize your fundamental role in transforming our society.”
