New technologies at the Economic Forum

Luc Williams

Invited guests from Poland and abroad will discuss innovations and new technologies. One of the topics planned for this event is the discussion “How do digital innovations stimulate social and economic change?” It will be led by Alan Rhode, founder and CEO of Modern Wealth from Great Britain (AlanRhode.com).

As the organizers of the Economic Forum emphasize, digital innovations are one of the key elements in the changes in the modern world. With the development of digital technologies, completely new sectors of the economy are emerging, and companies can more easily do business around the world, which promotes economic integration and the growth of international trade. The panel will discuss the issues of adapting to changes for the benefit of business and society, as well as the effective use of innovations on a daily basis.

The discussion will be attended by (in alphabetical order): Michał Gramatyka, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Konrad Maj, Head of the HumanTech Center at SWPS University, Prof. Ewa Okoń-Horodyńska, Chairwoman of the Science Studies Committee at the Jagiellonian University, Rita Tamašunienė, Member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, and Andriy Zablovskyy, Head of the Secretariat of the Council of Entrepreneurs at the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The Economic Forum also includes discussions related to local government and small homelands. This year’s edition includes, among others, the panel “Smart City – how to implement the idea?”. As the organizers point out, the idea of a modern city, full of technological innovations and solutions, is on the minds of architects and local government officials. This is a fashionable and important trend combining intelligent transport, urban infrastructure, health and energy. However, does the idea of a smart metropolis not carry too many threats – from possible universal surveillance, a blackout paralyzing the city to the digital exclusion of the elderly? How to build a smart city that is both safe and inclusive? The discussion devoted to these issues, among others, will be led by Ewa Kubejko-Polańska, president of the board of the Rzeszów Smart City Association.

The panel will be attended by: Terje Christensen, president and founder of Smart Cities Norway, Magdalena Cieślik, deputy mayor of Sopot, Saša Drezgić, dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Rijeka, Umberto Fugiglando, research and partnership manager at MIT Senseable City Lab, Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States, prof. Maja Kiba-Janiak from the University of Economics in Wrocław and Jozef Regec, vice president of the Czech Smart City Cluster.

The XXXIII Economic Forum will be held in Karpacz
