Petro’s government is put in its place for the controversial decision it made on the 4×1000 increase in Colombia

This week a new controversy broke out in the country, since one of the drafts of the new tax reform that the Government of President Gustavo Petro would promote was released. The text made it clear that a preliminary increase in the tax of 4 x 1,000 was proposed.

However, he had access to the document, which was prepared by advisor Nicolás García Díaz, which proves that the initiative was indeed included in the draft. Likewise, Minister Ricardo Bonilla admitted that the file did come from that portfolio.

Representative Katherine Miranda, likewise, spoke exclusively on Wednesday regarding this controversial issue and assured that the government has acquired the habit of launching this type of proposals to “test the temperature” of the citizens, and then “backtracking.”

“That is the modus operandi that the government has been pursuing, “They throw bombs to see how people react and then they retreat. They also tend to deny it. The metadata does not lie and it is clear that this proposal came from the Vice Ministry of Finance.”he initially stated.

Then he added: “They are rejecting it because that is how the government has acted with its various proposals, since it is, so to speak, taking the measure of the citizenry and public opinion. “I don’t think Colombia needs tax reform right now.”

The congresswoman of the Green Alliance pointed out that she does not agree with the decision and the position taken by the Petro Government on this initiative, since it is not correct, according to her, to lie to the people and go out and say that the 4 x 1,000 increase was never proposed, when the document shows the opposite.

Miranda was emphatic in saying that Colombia does not need tax reform, as the Petro government is suggesting. Finally, she questioned in this medium the way in which the national administration is managing public resources.

It must be said that the 4 x 1,000 was created more than 20 years ago as a temporary tax. However, over time it has become a tax to deal with crises, since its collection is relatively easy and no way has ever been found to replace the income it provides.
