Poland against the background of the global intellectual capital ranking

The Institute reported that in the 2023 ranking year the average score was 40which is 12.4 points less than Poland obtained. He is a leader South Korea with a score of 74.4. They are also on the podium Japan and China. Poland was overtaken by 12 European Union member statesincluding the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Estonia. Below us there were, among others: Lithuania, Latvia, Hungary, Canada, Australia and Spain. Lowest score he noted Afghanistan (16.9) and most African countries.

Structure of the Global Sustainable Competitiveness Index

Intellectual capital index is part of the “Global Sustainable Competitiveness Index”, prepared by the Swiss-Korean think-tank SolAbility. It is calculated taking into account three categories: education, R&D and new enterprises. “In the area of ​​education enrollment rates, academic results and selected infrastructure elements are included; in the area of ​​R&D – capital allocation, higher education and achievement, a in the area of ​​new enterprises – the number of new companies, the use of modern technologies in industry and patents,” explained PIE.

The importance of education and entrepreneurship for development skills

According to the authors of the index, countries with high positions in the ranking have a greater chance of further development or maintaining a good competitive position. They also pointed out that about development capabilities in knowledge-based areas they decide first and foremost high level of education and entrepreneurshipbut also balance between the production and service sectors. “Excessive basing of development on services leads to a decline in growth dynamics and a potential loss of knowledge,” it was pointed out.

The concept of intellectual capital in enterprises

PIE explained that the concept of intellectual capital is most often used in enterprises where it means the company’s intangible resources, e.g. knowledge, experience and technologies. “Just as the value, productivity and reputation of a company depend on the knowledge and skills of the people working in it, the effectiveness and innovativeness of processes taking place in modern economies depend on the knowledge resources present in it and the ability to use it,” it was emphasized.

Innovative aspects of intellectual capital

Intellectual capital, as a term gathering intangible knowledge-based growth factors, takes into account both technological and social innovations. Including, among others: human capitalresearch achievements and a structural environment that enables the implementation of new solutions. PIE noted that so far it has not been possible to create one coherent measure of this capital.
