Luc Williams

According to data from the Polish Automotive Industry Association, 50,221 new passenger cars were sold in June (+20.8% y/y) and 6,729 new delivery vehicles with a permissible total weight of up to 3.5 tonnes (+11.5% y/y). This means an increase of the entire market by 19.6%, which should be considered an impressive result.

Car Shopping 2024: Prices are falling, but not for all cars

Superauto.pl data shows that the average value of a premium car purchased there in June was PLN 299,336 gross (-6% y/y). In the case of delivery vehicles, the average value of a car was PLN 137,553 net, which is a 5% decrease compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the average value of a volume car purchased on the Superauto.pl platform amounted to PLN 153,242 gross in the year-on-year comparison, which is an increase of 10%.
By far the most popular form of financing is still operational leasing (75% of Superauto.pl sales), but 12% of long-term rentals and 13% of loans indicate that these forms of financing have also found their place on the market.

Car shopping 2024: growing demand for low-emission cars

Market trends clearly indicate the growing popularity of hybrid cars (MHEV, HEV, PHEV). Adding electric cars to them, it can be seen that electrified drives already constitute more than half of the market, and their share is constantly growing.
Over the last year alone, petrol and diesel have lost as much as 9 percentage points of market share.

Among passenger cars, the best-selling vehicles are still the aforementioned petrol-powered ones, but the changing of the guard is closer than further.
In the first half of 2023, they accounted for 43.9% of sales, while in the same period this year it was only 36.2%. Diesel currently accounts for only 8.7% of the market, while a year ago it was still 10%.

High demand for new cars: hybrids are the object of desire

The most dynamic growth is observed in mild hybrids (MHEV), which increased sales by 47.1% in the last year and already have 24.5% of the new passenger car market. Full hybrids (HEV) are also becoming increasingly popular, accounting for 21.9% of the market, up from 17.7% a year ago. Electric cars (BEV) recorded a 4.3% increase in sales, but due to the dynamics of the market, their share fell to 3.2%.
– The automotive market in Poland is really gaining momentum. We are seeing double-digit sales growth, but what intrigues me the most is
June was another a month of Toyota domination. The Japanese brand sold 7,627 cars, which allowed it to take over 15.19% of the market and increase year-on-year by 21.3%. In second place was Skoda, which with 4,750 sold cars is getting closer to its Japanese rival. Volkswagen once again closed the podium with sales of 3,706 units.
More interesting data comes from the TOP 20 ranking. First, only three of the twenty manufacturers did not increase their sales year-on-year. The most painful decline was recorded by Kia, which dropped two places in the ranking with a result of -22.5%. The largest sales increases were achieved by: Suzuki (+104.4% y/y), Lexus (+49.3%), Tesla (+46%) and Mazda (+40.8%).
Also worth noting is the result of Mercedes, which increased sales by 31.8% and moved up three positions in the ranking, overtaking its main rivals – Audi and BMW. The TOP 20 included the Chinese brand – MG, which took 16th place, selling 1,169 cars.

New Car Sales 2024: Toyota Tops the Most Popular Models

When it comes to models, The TOP 5 again included three Toyota models. These are the Corolla (1st, most popular among business customers), Yaris (3rd) and Yaris Cross (4th).
The top five was completed by Skoda Octavia (2nd) and Hyundai Tucson (5th), while the most popular Kia Sportage among individual customers was right behind it. The appearance of the MG HS model (12th) in the TOP 15 is noteworthy, as well as a great month for the Ford Focus (14th) and Mercedes GLC (19th), which increased sales year-on-year by over 250%.
Superauto.pl sales results confirm market trends, but not always. Among volume brands, Skoda was the best (15% of sales), ahead of Kia (12%) and Hyundai (11%). BMW was the best among premium brands (34%). It was followed by Mercedes (31%) and Audi (24%).

Buying Commercial Vehicles 2024: Renault Has Captured the Entire Market

In the commercial vehicle segment with a permissible gross vehicle weight of up to 3.5 tonnes, Renault not only remains the leader, but they can be described as a dominator and a workhorse for the entire market. The French manufacturer sold as many as 1,754 delivery vehicles in June, which is a result not seen for a long time.
This allowed it to acquire as much as 26.07 percent of the market share.
Second Ford sold 893 units (13.27% market share), and third Iveco 775 (11.52%). Of the TOP 5 brands, only Toyota recorded a drop in sales compared to last year. Suzuki is a surprise, selling 177 cars and unexpectedly appearing in the TOP 10 with a sales increase of 677%.

Renault Master sold 1,207 units in June, strengthening its position as the dominant model.
The top five was completed by Iveco Daily (774), Mercedes Sprinter (429), Toyota Proace City (391) and Renault Express (351). The top ten was also joined by Ford Ranger (8th), which for the first time in a long time dethroned Toyota Hilux.
Superauto.pl data fully confirms market trends. Renault accounted for as much as 28 percent of total sales of delivery vehicles on the platform. Second place was taken by Ford with 20 percent, and third by Fiat with 16 percent.
June’s car sales figures show fascinating changes in the automotive market. Toyota maintains its dominance, but Skoda is consistently closing the gap, which could herald fierce competition in the coming months.

– What is particularly interesting is the spectacular increase in sales of brands such as Suzuki and Lexus, which suggests growing customer interest in alternative options – comments Bartosz Chojnacki.
– It is also worth paying attention to the Chinese brand MG, which has made it to the TOP 20 for another month in a row, which may herald greater changes in the balance of power on the market. In the delivery segment, Renault shows impressive strength, driving the entire sector. Observing these trends, we can expect further intensification of competition and potential changes in consumer preferences in the coming months – adds the expert.
