“In my opinion, Poles have largely got used to restrictions. To this, society is already tired of talking about the possible restoration of trade on Sunday, especially since for a long time nothing specific in this topic” – commented Robert Biegaj, one of the authors of the report.

According to experts from UCE Research, the results of the study would be different if the respondents were asked what they think about the possibility of restoring trade on one or two Sundays a month. “Most of the society could agree with such a solution. Probably this percentage would be 8-10 percent than the one who is in favor of trading on all Sundays” – said Biegaj.

Do not expect changes

According to the authors of the report, there is no indication that the trend should change in the near future and the proportions of supporters and opponents of restoration of trade on Sunday are reversed. “The lack of pre -election promise has contributed to this. Poles cease to believe that withdrawing the trade ban on Sunday is real, which is why they are more and more skeptical about this topic. It can also be seen that the retail industry itself is not very much about such a change” – he summed up.

Who wants to return trade on Sunday?

According to the study, they speak primarily for restoring trade on all Sundays People aged 18-24 (53.7 percent in this age group). More supporters of commercial Sundays It is also in the group earning PLN 7,000-8999 net per month (52 percent), and among city dwellers 500 thousand (49.1 percent).

Opponents of restoration of trade on Sunday are mainly people in the age group of 55-64 years (58.9 percent), earning from 1000 to 2999 PLN net (51.3 percent), as well as residents of villages and towns up to 5,000 residents (54.7 percent).

The current act prohibiting trade on Sundays

The Act gradually introducing a ban on trade on Sundays entered into force on March 1, 2018. From 2020, trade ban does not apply only on seven Sundays in the year: the last Sundays of January, April, June and August, as well as on Sunday before Easter, and after the amendment also three consecutive Sundays preceding Christmas.

The act limiting trade on Sunday provides for a 32 exclusion catalog. The ban does not include, among others postal activity, if revenues from this activity constitute at least 40 percent. revenues from the sale of a given facility. In addition, it does not apply in confectioneries, ice cream parlors, liquid fuel stations, in florists, in press stores or in cafes.
