Safety, flexibility and atom – PGE priorities through energy transformation

Flexibility – a new foundation of energy security

As Marzec emphasized, the concept of energy security is no longer limited to supply continuity. Today, flexibility is equally important – the system’s ability to respond to changing terms of production and energy consumption. It is about matching the production capacity to the moments when the sun shines and the wind blows, and ensuring energy availability when these conditions are lacking.

Therefore, PGE focuses on the development of energy magazines and gas investments – as a flexible and low -emission source. The president indicated an example of a gas block in Dolna Odra, which in one day changed power from 300 to 600 MW. “Only gas gives such flexibility,” he emphasized.

Poland is catching up

March admitted that Poland has been unsubscribing from the European energy policy over the past eight years, which now forces the acceleration of activities. Although the share of coal in the energy mix still exceeds 50%, the goal of PGE is to change this model towards gas, and in the further perspective – the atom.

By 2030, PGE plans to launch 5 GW new gas power. In parallel, energy storage projects are developed – 2000 MWh has already been contracted as part of the power market. The company also invests over PLN 5 billion annually in the modernization and digitization of distribution networks, which must meet the new, more distributed energy model.

Bełchatów – the future of the atom

Bełchatów occupies a special place in PGE plans – today associated with brown coal, in the future it can become a symbol of the atomic revolution. As March says, this location has everything: existing infrastructure, qualified staff, social support and logistics possibilities. PGE suggests that Bełchatów become a location for the second nuclear power plant in Poland, after the current investment in Choczew.

However, the final decision on location belongs to the government. As the president pointed out, this type of election is political, which is the norm throughout Europe.

The balance between the dispersion and the PGE industry also sees the growing role of prosumers and renewable energy micro -installations, but there are no illusions – we will not supply the industry with roof panels.

Therefore, large, stable power sources are necessary that will protect the needs of the economy.

PGE not only plans, but is already working. Flexibility, gas investments and warehouses, network modernization and nuclear energy – these are the pillars of a new approach to energy security. The June strategy is to show how exactly PGE intends to implement these pillars.
