A new controversy surrounds the government of President Gustavo Petro, after troops from the National Army intercepted a caravan in the department of Antioquia in which some leaders of the dissident FARC were traveling, a group with which a peace process is beginning.
“At around 9:00 am today, the director of the National Protection Unit (UNP) He learned of the roadblock on the Medellín-Anorí highway (Puente Gabino) from a collective protection scheme. He immediately requested that the caravan of vehicles be taken to a police station for inspection.” initially stated.
This incident, as expected, caused a great controversy in the country. One of the first to speak out was the governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón, who said that the ringleaders refused to get out of the trucks.
Likewise, the official spoke exclusively with and revealed that inside the high-end vehicles were Carlos Eduardo García Téllez, alias Andrey, and Alexander Díaz Mendoza, alias Calarcá, in addition to Jesús Orrego Arango, alias Firu, who has an outstanding arrest warrant.
“The troops were carrying out a routine check, and there they detained seven UNP vehicles. It was learned that most of the occupants were members of the FARC dissidents. Alias Calarcá and alias Firu, the perpetrator of a massacre against six soldiers, were there. initially stated.
Then he added: “These people refused to get out of the vans, and a representative of the United Nations arrived. The arrest warrant must not be lifted in a hurry. This strategy of total peace has unleashed more violence in Antioquia. We believe that the vehicles may be carrying weapons and drugs.”
It should be mentioned that Jesús Orrego Arango, alias Firu, is the leader of Structure 36 of the FARC dissidents, and it is reported that he has made alliances with the ELN in Antioquia to expel other criminal groups and thus take over drug trafficking and illegal mining businesses.
Finally, the Ministry of Defense explained that the occupants of the high-end trucks must be transferred to a military and police unit for identification. In addition, the Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez, reported: “We are in the process. Security arrangements have protocols that must be followed for the identification of occupants of armored vehicles.”
