Álvaro Echeverry was finally chosen as the new magistrate of the National Electoral Council (CNE) in replacement of César Lordu. The decision was made in the midst of controversy because for many political sectors, especially the opposition, It is a tab of the government of President Gustavo Petro.
In fact, since the news was confirmed, it has come to light that it was within the campaign of the historical pact, so it is problematic, they say, that it is a magistrate of the same body that is responsible for the investigation for the alleged irregular financing of today, a process that is already in practice of evidence.
Hernán Cadavidrepresentative to the Chamber for the Democratic Center, spoke about about this issue and took the opportunity to send a clear message to the new member of the CNE.
The opposition party militant responded to the statements made by Echeverry in which he pointed out that he would not be “political activist” within the CNE. “One prefers to hear that to have come with other words”he commented.
“But as that expression says, it would be biblical but that I am not sure if it is, that for their facts you will know them“He added.
However, Cadavid warned that in this case “Not being able to give us luxury” that Echeverry shows this with his vote. For the same reason, he recalled that, at least in the past, he was close to the head of state.
“Echeverry has pre -existing conditions of belonging, militancy, sympathy and advice with the historical pact campaign, Bad would do to determine if there are administrative responsibilities When he participated in that same campaign, ”he said.
For his part, Gabriel Becerra, representative to the Chamber for the historical pact, made it clear that from this sector they will continue to demand that there be total “respect for the social state of law.”
“We know that when there are sectors other than the traditional ones, who have also had control not only of this administrative authority but of the high cuts for decades, (…) All this type of comments is generated”He said.
In that sense, he remarked that this type of protests should also be carried out in another case, and not only when the protagonist is the current Petro government. “That reality cannot be ignored,” He stressed.
Therefore, he emphasized that all people have a marked political position, but these conflicts can be overcome “If when these scenarios are reached, you act with legal rigor and with a guarantee spirit”.
On the other hand, Cadavid referred to the celebration made by Roy Barreras, Colombian ambassador to the United Kingdom, and Armando Benedetti, Interior Minister, shortly after the magistrate’s choice was known in the CNE.
“It is evident what they have achieved, the country is seeing them (…) that fall in the image and reproach in what the government is currently, because this type of practices has led them to the destruction of that speech”He said.
