KGS will not invest in Carrefour
The National Food Group will not take over shares in the Carrefour chain because There is no economic justification for this – according to Monday’s statement by the Minister of Agriculture, Stefan Krajewski.
– The idea of buying this chain is closed. We have analyzed it, the decision has been made – said the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development on TVP Info on Monday.
The resort is looking for other solutions
The head of the ministry added that the ministry is looking for other solutions to respond to “challenges resulting from destabilization of supplies related to war, natural disasters or weather anomalies”.
According to Krajewski’s statement, KGS’s capital involvement in the Carreforur network would not currently be economically justified.
– Apart from political decisions the economic factor is important. It all has to come together, colloquially speaking. We remember the decisions of our predecessors, which had only a political dimension, and later we had to pay for these mistakes economically – noted the minister.
Foreign discount stores dominate
At the end of November last year The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development recommended the National Food Group to take over the Carrefour store chain and continuation of work on the consolidation of state assets in the food trade.”
The head of the ministry, Stefan Krajewski, quoted in the release, stated then that KGS could do so provide Polish products with access to store shelveswhich today in large-format facilities are dominated by private labels, a the retail market is mostly covered by a network of foreign discount stores.
Later, in January, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of State Assets, Grzegorz Wrona, commented on the idea. He stated that the takeover of Carrefour by the National Food Group would not be a good solution because it would mean taking over a chain that is in trouble. – Taking over networks from other countries operating on the Polish market is not the best solution. There are so many Polish chains that we can develop what is already on the market today, said Wrona.
