Youth are seen as a fundamental pillar for driving change in their cities, especially in a world where new technologies play a crucial role. With their adaptability and creativity, young people are capable of developing innovative projects that can solve urban problems efficiently.

Areas such as mobility, security and public services can be significantly improved thanks to technological initiatives led by young people – projects in progress or just ideas – thus promoting urban development and quality of life.

In this context, the SandBox Foundation is launching ‘HackaBOX’, a marathon event that brings together young people with representatives from the economic, educational, private and public sectors. The aim is to discover and foster emerging talents, providing growth opportunities and strengthening their practical knowledge in innovation. This event follows the success of the ‘Hackathon 2023’, which impacted 560 young people in Bogotá.

Participants will be able to receive mentoring from specialized professionals, “incubate their project and turn their ideas into tangible realities.” In addition, they will represent their town at a district event and “will have the opportunity to connect with companies, form a valuable network of contacts for their professional future and live a unique experience that will allow them to develop their technological and innovation skills,” according to SandBox.

Schedule and how to participate

‘HackaBOX’ is scheduled to begin on August 3 in the towns of Chapinero, Teusaquillo, Engativá, Fontibón, Suba and Usaquén. It will continue on August 10 in Tunjuelito, Ciudad Bolívar, Puente Aranda and Barrios Unidos. On August 17, the event will reach La Candelaria, Santa Fe, Antonio Nariño, Los Mártires, Kennedy and Bosa. Finally, the last date will be on August 24 in Sumapaz, Usme, San Cristóbal and Rafael Uribe Uribe.

“HackaBOX represents our commitment to empowering young people through innovation and technology. We want to provide them with tools and opportunities so that they can transform their lives and their communities.“, says the leader of the initiative, Diana Arenas, an engineer and innovation expert.

“We are going to have young people between 17 and 28 years old, we have no distinction, We are open to young people who want to innovate, who want to learn to innovate, who want to understand the concept, who want to approach opportunities,” Arenas adds.
