List of strategic companies
The head of government explained that his decision will take the form of a regulation of the Council of Ministers, which will be adopted next week.
“I have decided to supplement the regulation on the list of entities subject to protection and the control authorities competent for them, the list of companies (…) also with television stations TVN and Polsat. They will be included in the list of strategic companies that are subject to protection, e.g. against an aggressive and dangerous takeover from the point of view of the interests of the Polish state,” Tusk said.
The Prime Minister emphasized that “this decision to supplement the list means that without the consent of the Polish government it will not be possible to take over or buy companies that are on this strategic list, companies that are subject to protection.”
He added that “gossip or rumors that in the East we find people interested in possibly taking over the media or influencing the work of the media in Poland (…) this matter is very serious.”
These are not the first private companies on such a list
He noted that TVN and Polsat will not be the first private companies covered by such protection and this is not a precedent, because other European countries also have this type of solutions. “We will make decisions on this matter in a transparent manner, they will also be subject to appeals, everything will be as transparent as possible. But we will not give up and we will not allow hostile states to impudently interfere (…) in our everyday life, in our economy or electoral processes,” Tusk said. (PAP)
