The lawyer Abelardo de la Espriella spoke with the program The Week Debate and referred to the 2026 elections in which the Congress of the Republic will be renewed and the successor of President Gustavo Petro will be chosen.

In that sense, the lawyer said that the ex -president must be a vice presidential candidate. “If we have Messi, why are we leaving him out? De la Espriella said that the Constitution allows the former president to apply for the vice presidency.
“You can do it. What does the Constitution say? He may not be elected president who has already held the presidency of the Republic. Inhabilities are express. The position of the vice presidency does not say that it cannot be occupied by a person who has already been president. That is, Uribe could not aspire to be president, but he could aspire to be vice president, ”said the lawyer, who said he remains to convince the ex -president to access the application.
