Wasyl Bodnar: Ukraine cannot be received by the right to security

– The Polish raison d’etat is to support Ukraine’s integration with Western structures – First of all with NATO and the European Union. This means extending the development and safety zone, as well as stabilizing the situation in the region – he says in an interview with Dziennik Gazeta Prawna Ambassador of Ukraine in Warsaw Vasyl Bodnar. In this way he referred to the declaration of the presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki, who announced the opposition to the accession of Ukraine to the North Atlantic Alliance.

The ambassador who visited the DGP studio at the Baltic Business Forum in Świnoujście, emphasizes that in such situations you cannot be silent. – When someone says that they would like to take Ukraine the right to safety and development, we must speak – he emphasizes. – I would not like it to be picked up as support for one of the candidates, but we must defend ourselves. The choice of president is of course the task of Polish women and Poles – he adds.

According to Bodnar, relations between Poland and Ukraine are currently “good and constructive”. – We do not follow the path of emotions and loud media declarations, but we focus on solving real problems in our relationships – he says.

– Poland is a key and closest to Ukraine’s partner – He is the first to help, the first to rebuild. Today we are talking not only about gratitude for this support, which has already been shown and is still provided, but also about the prospects of further cooperation – adds Wasyl Bodnar.

The ambassador reminds that Poland plays a key role in supporting the European aspirations of Ukraine. – We strive for membership in the European Union and work on it together with Poland, which has fresh transformation experience – emphasizes Bodnar.

The authorities in Kiev submitted an application for membership in the EU just a few days after the start of the full -size invasion of Russia in February 2022. In June of the same year, the European Council awarded Ukraine the status of a candidate country, and formal accession negotiations began two years later.

The ambassador emphasizes that the war significantly changed the perception of the European Union, which – in his opinion – proved to be much more effective than thought before the conflict.
– The Union was always criticized for bureaucracy and slow decisions, and in the meantime it turned out to be very proactive – she made quick decisions regarding the candidacy of Ukraine, supports us in both defense and the economy – says Ambassador Bodnar.

We strongly encourage you to watch and listen to the entire interview.
