We already have 5 million smart meters

The goals for the installation of smart meters are set out in the amendment to the Energy Law (the so-called Metering Act), which entered into force in mid-2021.

Statutory milestones

The Metering Act provides that individual distribution system operators (DSOs) will achieve at least 15% remote metering by the end of 2023. energy consumption points at end users in households.

By the end of 2025, it is expected to be 35%. recipients, in 2027 – 65 percent, and in 2028 80 percent. However, by July 4, 2031, 100 percent. end consumers throughout Poland should be equipped with remote reading meters (VOC).

One year before the first milestone, only two distributors met the 15 percent remote metering requirement for their customers. The first was Energa-Operator (61%), which has been outstripping the other “big five” companies in this respect for years, and the second was Tauron Dystrybucja (17%). Stoen Operator (14%), PGE Dystrybucja (9%) and Enea Operator (8%) were below the statutory threshold.

WysokieNapiecie.pl asked individual companies about their results at the end of 2023, as well as current plans related to the implementation of VOCs.

No changes on the podium

The leader, of course, remains Energa-Operator, which is several years ahead of the statutory deadlines. As Łukasz Głowacki, director of the Measurements Department at the Gdańsk-based company, told us, at the end of last year, nearly 2.5 million VOCs were installed, which means that 74 percent were remotely measured. clients connected to the network.

In 2024, over 0.4 million devices are to be replaced, and the share of smart meters in metering will reach over 85%. Energa-Operator plans to provide remote measurement to all its customers by the end of 2026, i.e. 4.5 years before the statutory deadline.
