Poland needs both renewable and nuclear energyj, to reduce electricity costs – said Finance Minister Andrzej Domański on Sunday during the Campus Polska Przyszłości in Olsztyn. “Next year we will allocate PLN 4.6 billion for the construction of a nuclear power plant,” he said.
Domański drew attention to the fact that energy prices in Poland are 40-50 percent higher than in Germany, France and Spain, and this is a huge challenge for the Polish industry.
The government knows what to do
The Minister also assured that the government knows which direction to take to achieve effectively implement the energy transformation in Poland. He also added that energy transformation (i.e. the development of renewable energy sources, nuclear energy, power grids, energy storage facilities and the introduction of dynamic tariffs) is the number one challenge.
Domański presented the preliminary expenditure for the largest investment in the country’s history a few days before the government meeting to approve the draft budget for next year.
First nuclear power plant in 10 years
Bloomberg recalls that earlier this month the government assumed that will have to secure around PLN 60 billion for the project in the period 2025-2030 before it receives further funding from the United Statesh, which provide the technology. The plan estimates that the first nuclear power plant located on the Baltic Sea will be launched in about 10 years.
