Donald Trump kicked the board and became president of the United States again, defeated Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and will replace Joe Biden. In this way, he will return to the White House for the next four years, a decision by Americans that maintains attention and generates repercussions throughout the world.
In Colombia, of course, the situation has been closely followed, taking into account that the relations between the two countries are very good, although now there may be a big change. This was stated by Fabio Andrade, elected councilman in Weston (Florida), who was in and He spoke about what the relations will be like between the government of President Gustavo Petro and the one formed by the magnate when he takes office.
Andrade assured that the Colombian head of state must keep in mind that there are many of his ideas that the president-elect does not share and, therefore, it is most likely that he will not support them, so he has to be very cautious.
“Petro’s policy has to be very clear, he has to understand that with this president he will not be able to play, he will not be able to be incorrect. “You have to take great care of yourself because the management that the ambassador is going to have in Washington is going to be very important,” he noted.
The elected councilor warned that the new tenant of the White House will be “very forceful” with his decisions and therefore each action must be analyzed with the greatest care. In that sense, he stressed that the Colombian president and the members of his Executive must understand that things have changed and that, unlike Joe Biden’s administration, the new era of Trump will not pass things so easily.
“President Petro has to be very cautious, he has to understand that he does not have a Biden administration that will give support to their total peace, attack the institutions, put an end to the opposition,” he said.
In the same way, he assured that the Colombian media will be able to feel great support from the new government and, from his perspective, it is clear that things between the two countries are going to transform.
“For Colombia there is going to be a radical change and we hope that with Trump’s new cabinet, When he begins to appoint the Secretary of National Security, the leader for this hemisphere and the Foreign Minister, they will be people who are very knowledgeable about how important Colombia is for the United States,” he commented.
Andrade also pointed out that one of the clear objectives will be to achieve once again a “common front” between the two nations for the fight against drug trafficking, one of the biggest problems in the entire world.
Regarding the reaction that Petro had upon learning who the winner of the US elections was, the elected councilor maintained that the message he wrote in X is very “confrontational” and, therefore, generates a little concern. For this reason, he reiterated the need to be “cautious” regarding matters between both countries.
“You are totally wrong in the way you are addressing the president of the United States. “Trump is not going to allow a single mistake in any kind of sense, he has never allowed it with other presidents,” he said.
“Very worrying and the Colombian community is fully listened to by President Trump, which is why today part of his cabinet will be people very close to Colombia. We are going to be very important allies (…). “Petro has to do very well and for his group at the embassy to understand that things have changed,” he stated.
