Alejandro Gaviria spoke about the final stretch of the government of President Gustavo Petro and what will be the next election year in Colombia.
The ex -rector of the University of Los Andes recalled when he was Minister of Petro and revealed a “strange” anecdote that he lived together with the head of state and Laura Sarabia, who at that time served as head of the presidential office.
Gaviria explained that everything was lived during a Council of Ministers and made it clear that this reflects the “implicit hierarchy” in the Executive. “Laura Sarabia was premiering that position that had been created during the Duke Government,” he said.
“It seemed to me that the direction of that council of ministers was double, in part was Mauricio Lizcano as director of the DaPre and part of Laura Sarabia,” he said.
Alejandro said that the ministers were not allowed to have cell phones during the advice, so they always picked them up. “A police lieutenant passed with a wooden box and there we put the cell phone,” he said.
However, this rule was not fulfilled by two people: President Gustavo Petro and, to his surprise, Laura Sarabia, who currently serves as Colombian Chancellor.
“That implicit hierarchy that showed this anecdote, caught my attention. She chatted during the Council of Ministers, that seemed a bit strange, ”he added.
From the vision of the former official, this episode made it clear that Sarabia, who for many is the most powerful woman in the government, was above the ministers and other officials. “It was somehow like a message,” he said.
“There were concerns against this, always in a respectful way, it is not that there was a conflict,” he said.
On the other hand, Gaviria spoke of vice president France Márquez and the role she had in these tips. “It was active in some of the meetings, a bit similar to what we saw in the Council of Television Ministers,” he said.
“I never saw her completely integrated into the government team, I never saw her very integrated to what was happening in the Presidency. It was a presence that had a certain mismatch, as a difficult relationship with the president, ”he added.
