While in the streets thousands of people marched in favor of the government and in support of the popular consultation, The seventh commission of the Senate gave the final lunge to the controversial labor reform and finished sinking it.

The project unleashed a new confrontation between President Gustavo Petro and the Congress of the Republic, which finally made a decision and did not give him a green light.

The Minister of Labor, Antonio Sanguino, went through to talk about this hard blow that Petro’s executive received and He took the opportunity to send a message to the congressmen who were in charge of sinking the reform and in general to the entire opposition.

The official said that there really is an “opposition eagerness” and used the rights of workers only with the aim of bringing the opposite to the government. “It is an attitude of political meanness and poor political calculation,” pointed out.

For this reason, he warned that this position will be reflected in the Congress and Presidency of 2026.

“Then people will punish it at the polls, no matter how much money they put to the campaign, that people punish him at the polls. I believe that the political forces that accompany the government will take care of receiving a deserved dose of punishment, electorally speaking”He said.

On the other hand, Sanguino made it clear that this labor reform did not appear without any calculation, but that from its portfolio several studies were carried out in which it was demonstrated that what was raised there would greatly help citizens.

In fact, he said that more jobs would have been created and, at the same time, an economic dynamic would be triggered that would help the country.

On the popular consultation, the minister explained that the idea is that this focuses only on the labor reform, but recalled that the last word will be President Petro.

“I hope that the health reform does not give the same treatment, the same euthanasia that they practiced to work. This would open a discussion scenario about presenting health reform questions in this questionnaire”He said.

Sanguino was confident that in Congress they have enough support for green light to be carried out by the popular consultation, although this has generated a whole debate and controversy.

“I think that you don’t have to be afraid that people rule and go to the polls. (…) They do not give us arguments to think that there is an institutional and rational blockade from Congress, especially from the Senate, ”he said.

He went further and said that from the government they do not contemplate a negative for the popular consultation. “I believe that the Senate will authorize the call,” he said.
