President Gustavo Petro surprised and put together a new controversy after announcing the call to a popular consultation so that, citizens can choose and show their support for government reforms.

Enrique Peñalosa, former mayor of Bogotá and one of the main critics of the current national administration, spoke about about this topic and He hardly questioned the popular consultation; Among his arguments, he put on the table the great investment that this needs.

You have to be very careful because there are certain things that do not ask in a consultationor they want us to ask people – with an irresponsible populist like Petro – that if we upload the minimum wage five times, ”he said.

Peñalosa made it clear that this cannot be done, but stressed that politicians resort to these types of actions to achieve an imaginary support from citizens. “I think that typical irresponsible populism is not done anywhere in the world,” he said.

In that sense, he put on the table all the money that has to be invested to do that activity, silver that could be used for other projects that clearly benefit Colombians.

“That popular consultation could cost 500 billion pesos easily, and suddenly even much more,” He pointed out.

The reality is that Petro has approved many laws; It is not true that they have struck him. (…) In addition, we must remember that we are in a democracy in which what Congress says as what the president says, ”he said.

Peñalosa went further by warning that the head of state sells a different democracy and with this tries to convince citizens. “He sells the idea that everyone has to obey what he wants,” he said.

“I am sure that if that consultation is made and all that money is thrown away, You will not have the necessary votes, Besides that there is another legal amount of legal details that are very boring, ”he said.

At the moment, neither the president nor anyone from the government have given more details of how this consultation will be made and the date on which Colombians can vote. At the same time, the Executive, starting with the highest president, has made an invitation to the people to leave against the decision of the Congress not to pass these reforms.
