Cars have more functions safety than ever before, but that doesn’t translate into no deaths car accidents. According to US government statistics, it is estimated that 18,720 people died in car accidents in the US between January and June 2024, reports Quartz.
The reason for the accidents? Driver behavior
Improved car design, driver-assist technology and better airbag technology are not saving as many lives as they could, said Karl Brauer, executive analyst at iSeeCars. Reason? Driver distraction while driving and speeding. iSeeCars analyzed the number of driving deaths to see which brands have the most fatalities – based on the number of fatal accidents per kilometers driven.
“The size, weight and height of a vehicle certainly play a role in its ability to protect occupants in the event of a crash,” Brauer said. “However, the greatest factor in passenger safety is avoiding an accident, and the most important factor in avoiding an accident is driver behavior.” Brauer added that “a focused, alert, sober driver traveling at the speed limit or a reasonable speed has the best chance of arriving safely – regardless of the vehicle he or she is driving.”
