Colombia is experiencing a heat wave that has local and departmental authorities on high alert, taking into account that this has generated the drying up of tributaries that supply water to millions of people. In addition, people are desperate because of the high temperatures even at night and/or early in the morning.
Following the above, Ghisliane Echeverry Prieto, director of Ideam, revealed in when the rains will return, but not before emphasizing that it will not be in all areas of the country.
“Here it is important to know where and to emphasize that each region of the country has a different rainfall regime, that is, The rains do not arrive at the same time, nor with the same duration in the Caribbean region, as in the Amazon or Pacific region.; each region has a different behavior. Along these lines, what we have been saying from Ideam is that for the months of October and November we expect rain in the Caribbean, Pacific and part of the Andean region, because there the second rainy season is already established, according to historical variables and it would be in some way intensified by a weak La Niña phenomenon that also only impacts the Caribbean and Andean regions,” said Echeverry.
Faced with the factors that have been causing the heat wave in the country, The official said that it is due to several circumstances that occur at the climatic level.
“This is due to structural changes, climate change, and our country is being affected by it. Furthermore, September is a month in which, historically, in much of our country, there is less rainfall and usually high temperatures. So, all these circumstances are coming together,” said Echeverry.
As for the department of Chocó, the director of Ideam warned that in this part of the country there will be less rain than usual, all as part of the same climatic variables that have been recorded. “Climate change has an impact on all territories and we can also see the increase in temperature in some of these territories,” he added.
“Therefore, the decision was made to return to the initial daily rationing scheme starting on September 29, when cycle 15 begins, in the nine established shifts. This means that shifts will rotate every ten days again, as was done between April and June.” reported this Friday, September 20, from the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá.
