Green light for public aid for Intel

European Commission informed Poland that it is green light for public aid to Intel. This is very good news. This is an important step that we have been waiting for the last few months,” Gawkowski said at Friday’s conference.

As reported by the Ministry of Digital Affairs, via President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection in the coming days, the Minister of Digital Affairs will submit to the European Commission a notification of state aid for the planned investment in the construction of a semiconductor factory in the commune of Miękinia near Wrocław. At the same time, work will be launched on obtaining consent Council of Ministersexpressed in the form of a resolution, to grant public aid to Intel.

The value of the planned public aid spread over the years 2024-2026 is over PLN 7.4 billion (USD 1.8 billion). The pre-notification procedure is conducted between Poland and the European Commission and Intel lasted from February 9 this year at the request of the Minister of Digital Affairs.

As emphasized by the Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs, Dariusz Standerski, a meeting of the inter-ministerial team for semiconductor investments, which has been working for several months, will be convened on Friday. “Within this team, we will agree on positions regarding the procedure for issuing opinions resolutions on public aid” – Standerski said. He estimated that the agreement with Intel would be signed by the end of this year.

As reported by the ministry, the government’s consent and notification of public aid will enable the conclusion of an agreement between the State Treasury represented by Minister of Digital Affairs and Intel, specifying detailed rules for this aid. The condition for granting public aid is also for Intel to obtain the status of an open EU factory. Intel has already submitted such an application to the European Commission.

The process of granting public aid to Intel is conducted on the basis of a government program called the “National Framework for Supporting Strategic Semiconductor Investments”.

Intel’s investment in Poland

In June 2023, Intel announced an investment of approximately $4.6 billion to launch a semiconductor integration and testing facility in Miękinia near Wrocław.The company announced that the new company will employ about 2,000 people. As emphasized, Intel’s decision also means thousands of positions with suppliers and temporary employment during construction work.

Intel is headquartered in Santa Clara, California’s Silicon Valley, USA is a new technology company founded in 1968, one of the largest semiconductor manufacturers in the world. The American company, listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange, produces, among others, processors for personal computers, as well as IT and hardware solutions for data centers, artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicles.
